The course “Basic Training for Service on Ships Subject to The International Code of Safety Ships Using Gases or Other Low-flashpoint Fuels”
is designed for masters, deck officers, engineer officers, ratings and other personnel serving on board ships subject to the IGF Code.

The programme has been developed in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) –
Section A‑V/3‑1 of the STCW Code, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974 (SOLAS 74) as amended,
the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code),
and the recommendations of IMO Model Course 7.13 “Basic training for masters, officers, ratings and other personnel on ships subject to the IGF Code”.

The course consists of four modules and covers the fundamentals of safe operation of ships using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels,
emergency response and fire protection. Training is delivered fully online through video lessons, supporting materials and documents
that can be accessed from a computer, smartphone or tablet.

After completing the modules, participants take a final test and, if successful, receive a certificate of completion.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • contribute to the safe operation of ships subject to the IGF Code
  • take precautions to prevent hazards on ships using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels
  • apply occupational health and safety requirements when working with such types of fuel
  • participate in fire-fighting operations on board ships subject to the IGF Code
  • respond effectively to emergencies related to fuel systems and fuel operations
  • take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment arising from the use of fuels on board

To obtain the certificate, participants must complete all course modules and successfully pass the final test,
demonstrating a basic level of competence for safe service on ships using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels.

Upon successful completion of the training, participants are awarded the certificate
“Basic Training For Service On Ships Subject To The International Code Of Safety Ships Using Gases Or Other Low-flashpoint Fuels”,
confirming that the course has been completed in accordance with STCW Code Section A‑V/3‑1, SOLAS 74 (as amended) and the IGF Code.
